This project is to collect and analyse data on the composition of litter,including how it varies between binned litter and dropped litter, with data on brands of litter items as well as litter type.

Government needs this information to help develop policy on Extended Producer Responsibility and support the National Litter Strategy and support the national anti-litter behaviour change campaign.
The key objectives of this research were to:
1) Collect data on the most commonly dropped types of litter items and brands, alongside variables such as site cleanliness, location and deprivation;
2) Provide a better understanding of the difference between binned and dropped litter, for example when considering brands, location and deprivation; and
3) Give a better assessment of the impact of public recycling bins in reducing litter.
