Developing Natural Capital Accounts for Woodlands and the Marine Environment - NR0158
|
Description
The Natural Environment White Paper commits the Government to work with the ONS in order to capture the value of nature in the Nation’s balance sheet. This project is part of our approach to meeting that commitment. It comprises two Work Packages: WP1 will establish some spatially-disaggregated initial natural capital accounts for woodlands, whilst WP2 comprises a scoping study for the compilation of natural capital accounts for the marine environment |
Objective
The aim of the project is to assist the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in meeting the key proposals and timings set out in the Roadmap. These include experimental national Ecosystem Accounts, which capture the benefits of nature in the nation’s balance sheet in a way that is as consistent as possible with SEEA guidance on Ecosystem Accounting, over the period 2013 to 2015. The ONS and Defra have started work on various aspects of the Roadmap and this project will build on the work to date. |
